MyEngene Canada Inc. | Calgary, AB (Hybrid) or Remote (Canada-wide)
Senior Bioinformatics Software Engineer - Canada, Remote
About Us
MyEngene® is a mission-driven precision genomics company transforming personalized medicine through pharmacogenomics and genetic testing solutions. We’re tackling adverse drug reactions, the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S., with cutting-edge platforms built to elevate patient care.

The Problem
Adverse drug reactions kill over 100,000 people annually in North America, more than car accidents, diabetes, or pneumonia. Most of these deaths are preventable. The science exists to predict which drugs will harm which patients based on their genetics. What's missing is the software infrastructure to make this actionable at scale.
The Opportunity
MyEngene® is a Calgary-based pharmacogenomics company. Our platform, PGxME, is a comprehensive genetic testing solution now entering the market. We're looking for a senior engineer to scale and maintain the platform as we grow, while building out new B2C e-commerce capabilities for direct-to-consumer sales.

What You'll Work On
You'll work across the full stack: bioinformatics pipelines, web and mobile applications, cloud infrastructure, and databases.

Platform Scaling & Maintenance
-
End-to-end automation and scaling of the bioinformatics pipeline including secondary and tertiary analysis and upload to the pharmacogenomics analysis platform. Ensure security, HIPAA and CLIA compliance
-
Enhance the pharmacogenomics analysis web platform that clinicians use to access genetic reports
-
Develop, deploy and manage AWS using IAAS and AWS containerized services Build integrations with laboratory partners and healthcare systems
B2C E-Commerce Development
-
Build direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform for genetic testing products
-
Implement payment processing, order management, and customer account systems
-
Design user-facing interfaces for test ordering and results delivery
-
Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production monitoring
What We're Looking For
You're a bioinformatician who can build and maintain production software. You understand genomic data formats and NGS workflows, and you can engineer reliable systems around them. Specifically:
-
5+ years building bioinformatics pipelines and/or production software in biotech, pharma, or healthcare
-
Hands-on experience with NGS data analysis: fastq, bam, vcf pipelines and associated tooling
-
Experience with bioinformatics workflow managers (Nextflow, Snakemake, or similar)
-
Proficiency with variant calling and annotation tools (samtools, bcftools, GATK, VEP, SnpEff)
-
Strong Python and Bash scripting; experience with Django or Flask
-
Proficiency with building HIPAA complaint authentication and authorization modules
-
Proficiency with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
-
Production AWS experience: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and ideally Batch/Fargate for compute workloads
-
Infrastructure as code with Terraform; containerization with Docker
-
Solid database skills: PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, ETL pipelines
-
Comfortable using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate development
-
Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or equivalent experience
Bonus Points
-
Experience with pharmacogenomics or clinical genomics
-
E-commerce platform development (payment integration, order management)
-
Familiarity with PharmGKB, CPIC guidelines, or drug-gene, drug-drug interaction databases
-
Knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, PIPEDA)
-
Previous startup experience (you know what you're signing up for)
Why Join Now
-
Ownership: You won't be a cog. You'll own the platform architecture. Your decisions ship to production.
-
Impact: The software you build will help clinicians make safer prescribing decisions for their patients.
-
Team: You'll work alongside PhD scientists who know pharmacogenomics deeply. You bring engineering; they bring science.
-
Flexibility: Remote-friendly anywhere in Canada. We care about output, not hours logged.
